Getting There

I’m assuming you’re sitting at home reading this and not in Key West because otherwise you would be out doing all the fun stuff, so let’s talk about how to get there. There are many different ways to get to Key West. You can literally get there by land, air, or sea.

A road trip is always a good idea depending on how far you live from South Florida. If you’re not from a subtropical area, the drive through the Keys will be a true experience as it’s like a tour through an emerald paradise with a breathtaking vista around every corner. Just in case you fly or come by boat and miss this great experience, I’ll give you a little glimpse of a drive through the Keys in a minute.

If you decide to fly, Key West has a great airport as does Marathon just up the road. You’ll find a modern airport accessible either by connecting through Miami or in some cases, a direct flight.

If you have your own boat, it’s a no-brainer, set sail for Key West. But if you don’t have your own vessel, Key West is one of the most popular stops around on many of the cruise ship itineraries. If you’re on the west coast of Florida, there is an express ferry from Fort Myers and Marco Island to Key West. Let’s take a look at each of these choices so you can decide which fits you best!
